Getting started - The Right WayYou have been through every website that tells what Mystery Shopping is all about, you have got hold of every bit of information you could on Mystery Shoppers , heard about 10 different ways of applying to Mystery Shopping Companies and so, you are all gung ho about becoming a Mystery Shopper! But the question is still nagging at the back of your mind-how do I get started as a Mystery Shopper the right way? It's a common problem faced by most newbie Mystery Shoppers . If you intend to make a real career out of Mystery Shopping, then its important for you to get started off the right foot.Now, most people go overboard applying to Mystery Shopping Companies left and right. Little do they know that applying to companies all over the place, without even knowing if they have job openings or not, can cost a lot of time and effort, without any fruitful returns. This way, you might end up being a new Mystery Shopper who "applied to a 100 companies but didn't hear from them!". So, it's always better to apply in response to actual job leads posted on many places on the internet by Mystery Shopping Companies. Having said that, do not make the mistake of applying to every Mystery Shopper job right away. You could become so overwhelmed with Mystery Shopping job requests that you are simply unable to keep up. Also, if you apply to just a handful of companies, you might get called for a Mystery Shopping assignment once a month or even less frequent than that. So, you ask, what do I do? Take it slow! Start off with a moderate number, say 10 companies or so. Then depending upon the number of suitable job offers you receive, keep on adding new companies weekly, say 5 or 6 a week. You will gradually find a balance between the number of assignments you receive and the time you have to devote to them. If you are still on the fence and a little skeptical about starting off with 10, then you can initially apply to the top 3 jobs that you think you are fit for. If your application does not get accepted or the companies cant offer you a suitable job, go to the next best 3 and try to reinvent your presentation. All in all, no matter what people tell you, the biggest blunder you can make at the very beginning of your Mystery Shopping career is applying to hundreds of companies at the same time. The bottom line is-go about it slowly and steadily, to give your Mystery Shopping career a head start!  |
