 Mystery ShoppersDo I Need a Disguise?When you think of the word Mystery Shopper, the image that comes to your mind might be of an undercover agent, dressed in a black trench coat, wearing dark glasses and an ear machine, sneaking around in shops and buying items in secret. If this is how you see a Mystery Shopper, you are pretty much mistaken.When you are a Mystery Shopper, you are just like any other regular shopper who is out for a shopping spree. The key word here is "shopper". The only "mystery" is that your purpose of visiting a store is different from other customers. But you are still a shopper, so dress like one! If you go about dressed like an undercover spy or a secret agent, you are sure to get noticed, and that's one thing your Mystery Shopping Company definitely does not want. But even though this kind of dressing to the nines is not suggested, you can always tailor your clothes and mannerisms to reflect the assignment you are doing. For example, if your Mystery Shopping assignment is to visit a shop selling leather briefcases, you can dress up little formally, say in a shirt and a pair of trousers. On the other hand, if you are visiting a fast food outlet, you might just wear a pair of jeans with a tee and sports shoes, to appear like someone who just wanted to hang around while munching on some burgers and fries. In some case, taking a guest along with you can be of great help. If your Mystery Shopping Company wants you to visit a toy shop, you would want to take a child with you, or at least keep in mind whether your fictitious child is a girl or a boy! Similarly, if you are a visiting a shop that sells computers, you can take someone who is interested in buying one. No matter what type of Mystery Shopping assignment you get, just remember, your goal is to dress and appear like an average customer. The bottom line is that you don't have to disguise yourself, you have to disguise the fact that you are at the store to evaluate it!  |
